Responsive Design for
Enablon SaaS

Scaled the platform from desktop-only to a company-wide responsive design strategy. Spearheaded the mobile-first design of Enablon’s SaaS platform, empowering field operators with a seamless, responsive experience

Challenge

Challenge

Enablon's web-based SaaS applications were originally designed for EHS managers and administrators working on desktop computers. When the user base expanded to include field operators using mobile devices on-site, the platform needed to become responsive and mobile-optimized to support their workflows.

Objectives

Objectives

Design a responsive experience that adapts seamlessly to any browsing environment, delivering optimal viewing across all devices while enhancing accessibility and user engagement.

Approach

Approach

User-Centered Experience

Applied semantic page layout principles to create intuitive navigation and accessible content, regardless of device. The design prioritizes clarity and ease of use for field operators working in varied conditions.

Fluid Layouts

Redesigned the navigation structure and page layouts using fluid grids that resize and reflow content based on screen size. This approach aligns with WCAG 2.2 Success Criterion 1.4.10 Reflow (Level AA), eliminating horizontal scrolling and ensuring accessibility across all devices.

Strategic Breakpoints

Collaborated with developers to implement breakpoints—specific thresholds where layouts adapt to different screen sizes—ensuring content displays optimally across the full spectrum of devices.

Accessibility Standards

Integrated responsive design with accessibility best practices, removing barriers for users with diverse needs while preserving their ability to zoom and adjust content as required.

Impact

Impact

The responsive redesign successfully expanded Enablon's reach to a larger, more diverse user base. Beyond the immediate project success, this work established the foundation for Wolters Kluwer's mobile-first product design and development strategy, serving as a template for future product releases across the organization.
