Enablon AISuggest smart form is the first step to achieving high data quality in manual data collection. It combines Enablon's in-house AI models built for each customer with off-the-shelf AI cloud-based services to simplify, accelerate, and enhance data accuracy during data collection.

Situation

Form fatigue was creating significant data quality issues across the organization. Lengthy forms caused users to rush through fields, leading to inaccurate entries and "dirty data" that required extensive cleanup. Many users, intimidated by the time commitment, simply abandoned the process altogether—resulting in underreported incidents.

This created tension between two key user groups: EHS managers in control rooms needed timely, accurate reporting, while field operators needed quick, mobile-friendly access that wouldn't disrupt their workflow.

In general, companies claim that 26% of their data is dirty and 60% of dirty data comes from human error. This costs the average business $15 million annually.

Pain Points

Field operators faced several challenges when completing event reports, inspections, and checklists:

  • Long input forms with numerous fields and answer choices

  • Difficulty maintaining data quality while working in the field

  • Time pressure competing with the need for thoroughness

Objectives

  1. Increase the accuracy and value of field data collection within the organization

  2. Eliminate friction in the data capture process

  3. Provide EHS departments with an effective method for gathering employee information

  4. Ensure GDPR compliance by automatically identifying and protecting personally identifiable information (PII)

  5. Address data quality issues at the point of entry

Solution

I integrated generative AI to transform the form-filling experience and developed AISuggest Smart Form. In AISuggest Smart Form, there are in-house AI models that use deep learning to automatically classify free text. It also learns from Enablon's existing report libraries and event database to:

  1. Automatically classify entered text (e.g., assigns risk categories)

  2. Suggest relevant answers to questions (e.g., Anyone hurt?, Any environmental damage?)

  3. Pre-populate form fields where appropriate

  4. Let users confirm/correct while the model learns and improves from this feedback

I manage to keep humans in the loop. Users can accept, modify, or reject AI suggestions, maintaining final authority over data quality before submission.
